Waldon Hendricks

I am an experienced academic in the Faculty of Informatics & Design with a strong track record in teaching, curriculum innovation, digital transformation and an IT Lecturer. My expertise spans cloud computing, distributed systems, DevOps, robotics, academic technologies and industry-accredited learning pathways. I have extensive experience managing CRIMS within the department, participating in ICTS governance structures, driving digital adoption across the curriculum and supporting staff development in cloud and open-source platforms. I bring academic leadership, research output, postgraduate supervision experience and an established record of strengthening industry partnerships that enhance student employability.

Teaching & Learning

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Python, Distributed Systems, Kubernetes, Networking and Cloud Computing.
• Integrate hands-on learning technologies such as LEGO Robotics, Raspberry Pi and Arduino into the curriculum.
• Design and revise curriculum to align with industry requirements and 4IR technologies.

Research & Supervision

• Publish research in distributed systems, cloud computing, Kubernetes and software engineering.
• Co-supervise Master’s and Doctoral students and supervise postgraduate research and capstone projects.

Academic Leadership & Quality Assurance

• Curriculum Officer (First-Year Academy), driving curriculum innovation and academic development.
• Mentor first-year academic staff in curriculum delivery and technology-enabled teaching.
• Participate in curriculum review, moderation processes and teaching quality initiatives.

Information Systems Management

• Manage the IT Department's CRIMS study query system, ensuring data accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Serve on the Hosted Services Forum ICTS, providing faculty-level feedback on system usage, disruptions and improvement needs.

IT Strategy & Digital Transformation

• Lead integration of cloud computing, DevOps, Linux and distributed computing technologies across curricula.
• Coordinate adoption of AWS Learner Labs, GitHub Classroom, JetBrains IDEs, Red Hat Academy and Huawei ICT Academy tools.
• Support staff development in emerging technologies and digital teaching methods.

• Huawei ICT Academy Support Centre Partner Manager – facilitate regional academy collaboration, training, and certification adoption.
• Huawei ICT Academy Administrator – manage lecturer enablement and student certification pathways.
• Red Hat Academy Member – support Linux and open-source curriculum deployment.
• JetBrains Academic Partner – manage licensing for professional development tools.
• GitHub Education Partner – deploy GitHub Classroom and Student Developer Pack tools.
